South Africa boxing is competing at world stage, boxing promoters and boxers keeping the sports alive. The government and business communities need to play their pivotal role.
The highlight was when Moruti Mthalane winning his two IBF fights outside the country.
Simphiwe Knonco and DeeJay Kriel kept the South Afri- can flag high abroad.
The upset was when Zolani Tete and Thulani Mbenge failed to defend their world titles.
At present only Kevin Lerena ( IBO junior heavyweight), Gideon Buthelezi (IBO junior bantamweight, AtandaNko- si( WBF lightweight), Nkosinathathi Joyi( IBO minimum- weight, Moruti Mthalane ( IBF flyweight) are the boxers with world titles. The sad news is that Hekkie Budler has not fought in 2019. Many of the female boxers are uncertain with their boxing career. Women boxing was inactive in 2019. Despite the shortfall there are boxers, trainers and promoters who deserve acknowledgement for their contributions to boxing.
